Zelensky arrives in US ahead of Trump meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in the United States for talks with US President Donald Trump regarding a potential agreement to develop minerals and rare earths, as reported by Interfax Ukraine news agency.

The main topics of discussion between the two leaders are expected to include the rare earths deal, protection from Russia, and the sharing of security costs by European nations for Ukraine.

Zelensky expressed the importance of aligning the Ukrainian position with that of the United States during a press conference in Kyiv, emphasizing the priority of the Ukrainian stance in the ongoing conflict.

The proposed deal would give the US 50% of revenue from Ukrainian critical and rare-earth mineral sales, with no additional security guarantees beyond the economic stake for America.

Zelensky also stressed the need for any cease-fire or peace agreement with Russia to involve Ukraine and insisted on the maintenance of current US sanctions against Russia.

The Ukrainian leader highlighted the significance of President Trump’s decision, as it would impact European partners and their support for Ukraine’s security guarantees in the future.

Trump and Zelensky have previously met on multiple occasions, including a meeting in New York and a conversation during the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
