Zelda might be the star of the show in Echoes of Wisdom, but it turns out Link will be playable after all

The first age-rating for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is here, and it looks like we will be playing as Link.

Back in June, during Nintendo’s annual summer direct, the developer announced something we’ve all been waiting years for: a Zelda game where you actually get to play as Princess Zelda herself. Echoes of Wisdom appears to be taking a different approach to the traditional formula, with Zelda wielding a special wand that allows her to copy various objects, making it more of a puzzle-focused game. It’s exciting to see Zelda taking the lead in a main series title. However, it seems that Link, the series’ iconic hero, will also be playable in the game, as indicated by the ESRB age-rating.

“This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link,” the summary begins, aligning with what has been revealed so far. “From a ¾-overhead perspective, players explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle.”

The mention of Link being playable suggests that there will be segments in the game where players control him. However, considering the primary goal of the game is to rescue Link, it is likely that his playable parts will be limited, possibly only in the initial stages as part of the setup.

The release date for the game is set for September 26, just a few months away, and it will be exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch.
