Ys X: Nordics has set sail on PC, and this time it's got local co-op from day one

Ys X: Nordics was originally launched in Japan last year and has now made its way to the west and onto PC. The PC version includes graphical upgrades, keyboard support, and local co-op from day one, unlike its predecessor Ys IX: Monstrum Nox which added co-op as a post-launch bonus.

Ys X once again follows the adventures of protagonist Adol, this time teaming up with pirate Karja. This partnership introduces ship-shaped exploration and combat, allowing players to switch between both characters or control them together to perform combined attacks.

The Ys series dates back to the ’80s but has been gaining popularity in recent years, especially on PC. Monstrum Nox was a best seller on Steam in July 2021, and it was recommended as a great starting point for newcomers by genre expert Nadia Oxford.

Personally, I have yet to delve into the Ys series, and naval battles have never been my favorite. However, the blue skies and grappling hooks in Ys X: Nordics do pique my interest. Maybe I’ll give it a try once I finish Ni no Kuni.

Ys X: Nordics can be purchased on Steam for £55/€60/$60, and there is a demo available where your progress can carry over to the full game.
