Your Students Are Coming Home And It’s Going to Be OK – Really

Dear college moms and dads, as your student’s first semester on campus comes to a close, I want to have a discussion with you about what to expect when your student comes home for winter break.

Some students may have been struggling silently or trying to tough it out until the end of the semester. When they come home, they may open up about the challenges they faced.

Students are coming home and families will face new realities

It’s important to understand that no matter what challenges your student may be facing, everything will be okay.

Some students may have struggled academically, socially, or emotionally during their first semester. They may have failed a course, had roommate issues, or realized that their current college isn’t the right fit for them.

It’s important to listen to your child with empathy and support. Every parent has faced similar challenges, and it’s okay for your child to be human and figure out what truly makes them happy.

“Everything is figureoutable”

Remember, no matter what challenges your student is facing, there is always a way to move forward and find support. Keep the end goal of maintaining a loving relationship with your child in mind, and remember that becoming an adult is a journey filled with ups and downs.

It’s perfectly fine if they end up choosing a different major, having a different roommate, attending a different school, or pursuing a different career path. They can always bounce back and you can be there to offer support, guidance, and understanding. Rest assured, everything will work out in the end. Trust me.
