Your OnePlus Phone is Getting a Big Free Upgrade with OxygenOS 15
One week after its promised announcement, OnePlus has officially launched OxygenOS 15, the latest version of its smartphone and tablet user experience on the global stage. It is one of the first to be based on the latest Android 15, released in mid-October.
The theme of the new operating system is “speed meets AI,” continuing OnePlus’s commitment to providing a fast and smooth software experience across its devices. AI is integrated into new features focusing on creativity, productivity, and security in this 2024 release.
Here are the major upgrades featured in OxygenOS 15, set to debut on the OnePlus 12 on October 30 and expected to roll out to other current OnePlus devices in the coming weeks.
It is also expected to ship with the upcoming OnePlus 13.
Fast and Smooth
OxygenOS 15 introduces a unique upgrade called Parallel Processing to enhance the fast and smooth experience. This feature allows the system to execute the first two stages of the app launch process concurrently, resulting in smoother visual navigation without compromising the snappy animation style of OxygenOS.
Additionally, OxygenOS 15 takes up about 20% less storage space than the previous release, providing users with more storage for apps and media while maintaining responsiveness.
Creativity
OnePlus has incorporated user feedback to make visual tweaks throughout OxygenOS 15, focusing on a more friendly and personalized user experience. Visual enhancements include a cleaner settings menu, rounded iconography, and revamped UI elements.
Features like OnePlus OneTake and Open Canvas enhance the lock screen and multitasking experience, respectively, offering users a more personalized and functional interface.
Productivity
One of the standout additions in OxygenOS 15 is “Share with iPhone,” a feature that aims to simplify wireless file transfer between OnePlus devices and iPhones, bridging the gap left by AirDrop.
Google and Samsung have joined forces to bring the QuickShare standard to nearly all modern Android devices, as well as Windows PCs. In contrast, Apple’s AirDrop technology remains exclusive to Apple products and operating systems.
The O+Connect app, which introduces the ‘Share with iPhone’ feature, is now available as a preview on the AppStore. This app promises seamless file transfer between users of both Android and iOS devices.
Unlike QuickShare, the ‘Share with iPhone’ feature is not available across all Android devices but does extend to OnePlus, Oppo, and Realme phones, which are part of the BBK Electronics family.
OxygenOS 15 introduces an AI Assistant in the Notes app, similar to what Honor’s MagicOS 8 and Samsung’s One UI 6.1 offer. This AI Assistant can summarize text into bullet points, transcribe voice recordings, clean up writing, and expand or shorten sections of copy as needed.
The new AI Reply feature in messaging generates responses based on the context of the conversation thread, with tone suggestions to guide the user in continuing the discussion.
Intelligent Search enhances system-wide search by scanning local files for specific information from notes and spreadsheets. This feature is set to debut with the arrival of the OnePlus 13.
In terms of security, OxygenOS 15, running on Android 15, benefits from improved protection with live threat detection powered by Google Play Protect. Theft protection features include locking down the device when it detects suspicious activity.
Biometric authentication is being expanded to more areas of the user experience to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive features.
Users installing OxygenOS 15 can also enjoy a fun Easter egg in the calculator app by typing ‘1+=’.
Overall, OxygenOS 15 offers a range of new features and improvements for OnePlus users, including enhanced security measures and AI-powered capabilities.
