Yahoo News gets an AI-powered overhaul

Yahoo News is now powered by AI, thanks to the acquisition of Artifact. The updated news aggregation app features AI-assisted personal feeds, key takeaways, and the ability to flag clickbait headlines.

In April, Yahoo purchased Artifact, the AI-driven news and recommendation app created by Instagram’s co-founders. The latest update demonstrates how this technology enhances Yahoo’s news feed, which attracts over 180 million unique visitors monthly in the US.

The new Yahoo News, currently available on mobile and coming soon to desktop, allows users to select topics and publishers of interest for personalized feed customization. One standout feature is the “Key Takeaways” section, offering a brief summary of main points at the beginning of articles to save time. This mirrors Artifact’s “Summarize” function.

Users can further personalize their feed by blocking specific keywords or publishers. An interesting feature is the ability to identify and rewrite clickbait headlines to provide more accurate information.

Yahoo is also redesigning its homepage layout to prioritize top news, personalized recommendations, and trending topics. Users can opt in to receive access to new features, including AI enhancements, as they are introduced.

The new Yahoo News app can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices in the US.
