Why I’m More Excited For Apple Smart Glasses Than Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro

Apple’s Vision Pro was expected to revolutionize wearable tech, but it has failed to meet expectations. With a high price tag and bulky design, it is more of a luxury item than a necessity.

While it boasts impressive displays and tracking features, most users eventually revert back to using their MacBooks or iPads once the initial excitement wears off.

This is why the rumored Apple smart glasses are so intriguing to me. Especially if Mark Gurman’s report about Apple working on a version of visionOS tailored for AR smart glasses comes to fruition.

Although they may still be a few years away, smart glasses offer a more practical solution. Unlike the Vision Pro, smart glasses can seamlessly integrate into daily life, providing real-time information without the need for a screen strapped to your face.

One major drawback of the Vision Pro is its battery life, lasting only about two hours. In contrast, smart glasses have the potential to last all day without the inconvenience of a cable connecting the goggles to a battery in your pocket.

Furthermore, the isolating nature of the Vision Pro is a significant issue. While it excels at multimedia consumption, it lacks the social and work-related features that would entice users away from their laptops or PCs.

Smart glasses, on the other hand, can display directions, notifications, and useful overlays while keeping users connected to the real world. Additionally, managing apps on the Vision Pro can feel cumbersome, whereas smart glasses could offer a more natural, glance-based interface.

Apple’s foray into spatial computing is undeniably exciting, but the Vision Pro seems more like a stepping stone than a final destination. Smart glasses, on the other hand, have the potential to be a true breakthrough, offering a lightweight, practical solution seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

While we may have to wait a few years, Apple’s smart glasses could make a significant impact when they finally hit the market.
