While advancements in technology may offer quicker ways to navigate through the Generation 1 Pokemon games, having a bike is still essential to access the cycling road near Celadon City.

Although the cycling road is technically optional, obtaining a bike is recommended for completion’s sake and to battle trainers along the way for experience points.

How to get a bike in Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow

To acquire a bike in Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow, you must first obtain a bike voucher to reduce the cost.

Head to Vermillion City, located south of Cerulean City where Misty serves as the Gym Leader. Look for the street between Lt. Surge’s gym and the Pokemon Center.

On the left side near the water, you’ll find the Pokemon Fan Club. Inside, talk to the man wearing a hat, who is the fan club president and a Pokemon enthusiast.

Engage him in conversation about his Pokemon, and he will excitedly discuss his Rapidash. In return for keeping his revelation confidential, he’ll give you a bike voucher.

With the voucher in hand, return to Cerulean City and locate the bike shop down one street from the Pokemon Center. Exchange the voucher with the salesman for a brand new bike!
