WhatsApp Will Make it Easier to See When Someone is Typing

If you’ve ever experienced the situation where you start typing a message on your phone, only to realize that someone else is typing at the same time, you’re not alone.

In most messaging apps, it’s easy to see when someone else is typing, allowing you to pause and wait for them to finish. However, on WhatsApp, this feature is not as prominently displayed.

Instead of a typing indicator appearing below the existing messages (like in Apple’s Messages and Facebook Messenger), WhatsApp displays it discreetly at the top of the screen next to the contact’s name. This placement can easily be overlooked while you’re engrossed in typing.

Fortunately, this issue will soon be resolved. According to 9to5Google, WhatsApp is updating the typing indicator to an icon and relocating it to the bottom of the screen. Placing it above the text box makes it more visible and convenient for users during a chat.

Currently, this change is only visible on certain Android devices running the WhatsApp beta version. It is expected to be rolled out to all compatible devices in the future, although the exact timeline is unclear.
