U.S. President Donald Trump expressed concern on Friday (May 16, 2025) about the dire situation in Gaza, where more than 70 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes since midnight according to rescuers.
Trump made these remarks during the conclusion of his first foreign tour of his second term, which included visits to several Gulf countries but did not include Israel.
Following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in March, Israel reestablished a complete blockade on Gaza, leading to critical food shortages as reported by aid agencies.
“We’re looking at Gaza. And we’re going to get that taken care of. A lot of people are starving,” Mr. Trump stated to reporters in Abu Dhabi.

On March 2, Israel ceased all aid to Gaza in an attempt to pressure militant group Hamas for concessions. Hamas has stated that the restoration of humanitarian aid to Gaza is essential for any negotiations.
Hamas also made it clear that Gaza is not up for sale after Trump suggested the idea of turning it into a “freedom zone”.
As of Friday, Gaza’s civil defense agency reported 74 casualties from Israeli airstrikes since midnight, with many more individuals trapped under debris as the shelling continues.
The airstrikes caused chaos in northern Gaza, with residents like Umm Mohammed al-Tatari and Ahmed Nasr describing the terrifying experience of living under constant bombing.
Footage from the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia showed the devastating impact of the airstrikes, with mourners grieving over the loss of their loved ones.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt of the conflict.
