Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the grimdark sci-fi successor to Fatshark’s popular Vermintide series, is set to release on PlayStation 5 on December 3rd, as announced by the studio.

Darktide on PS5 will include all the content and enhancements introduced since the PC launch, and will also feature the PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced marker. This means players can expect the following performance targets:

  • 60 FPS frame rate on a 4K resolution for PlayStation 5 Pro
  • Performance mode (60FPS on a 1440p resolution) for PlayStation 5
  • Quality Mode (30FPS on a 4K resolution) for PlayStation 5.

The PS5 version is expected to closely match the game on Xbox Series X, with the PS5 Pro offering an additional step in performance, aligning with Sony’s vision for balancing Quality and Performance modes.

Originally released for PC in November 2022, Darktide faced criticism from the Vermintide community for performance issues, bugs, and game progression. Fatshark delayed the Xbox Series X|S release to address these concerns, eventually launching the game on console in October 2023. Now, regardless of any exclusivity agreements, the game is making its way to PS5.

In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, players join a team of Inquisitorial Operatives on a mission to liberate a city from the corrupt forces of Chaos. Unlike other 40K games where players typically control Space Marines, Darktide offers a unique twist by casting players as criminals given a chance at redemption. This means players won’t have access to the top-tier weapons and gear seen in other games, leading to a mix of melee combat and gunplay.

Our review of the game praised its combination of melee and gunplay, with Dom stating, “Darktide is an absolute blast. Its heavyweight blend of melee and gunplay ensure that the flow of frantic runs into the hive city just keep on coming.”
