VR Port Studio Joins Andreessen Horowitz Accelerator, Earning Investment and Validation

Flat2VR Studios has recently been accepted into the SPEEDRUN accelerator, which not only provides the studio with a financial boost to further their mission of introducing VR support to non-VR games but also serves as a significant validation of their work.

SPEEDRUN is hosted by A16Z Games, a games-focused investment arm of Andreessen Horowitz, and is an early-stage accelerator for startups. It offers $750,000 in funding along with access to a select group of industry coaches, mentors, and a community of ambitious founders, according to the VC firm.

Flat2VR expressed their excitement in a post on X, stating that the accelerator program “should help open some doors to port more of those absolute dream titles officially into VR!”

Elliott Tate, co-founder of Flat2VR Studios, revealed that out of approximately 4,000 applicants, only 30 were selected for the accelerator program. This places the studio in the company of Speedrun veterans such as Oculus, Gym Class VR, and Sandbox VR.

Earlier this year, Impact Reality, a VR publishing and marketing firm, established Flat2VR Studios with the goal of collaborating with top developers from the VR modding community to create officially licensed VR adaptations of popular non-VR games.

Unlike the traditional approach taken by hobbyists and modding groups, Flat2VR Studios directly partners with developers to create official VR versions of their games. The studio includes VR porting experts ‘Cabalistic’ and ‘Raicuparta’, known for their VR adaptations of games like Half-Life 2 and Outer Wilds.

Currently, Flat2VR Studios is working on an official VR port of an undisclosed game, set to be released in late 2024 or early 2025 on major VR platforms. More details are expected to be revealed at the VR Games Showcase on August 15th.
