Vision Pro Knock-off Gets High Praise From Former Quest Engineer
Apple Vision Pro may not be available in black, but Play For Dream MR is. With an Android-based OS, Play For Dream caught the attention of many at CES 2025.
Originally launched in Asia and now expanding to the West, Play For Dream MR raised over $2.2 million through a successful Kickstarter campaign. The headset boasts features such as Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, dual 3,840 × 3,552 micro-OLED displays, eye-tracking, auto IPD adjustment, wired and wireless PC streaming, and a rear-mounted battery inspired by Quest Pro.
Former Quest engineer Amanda Watson had the opportunity to test Play For Dream’s MR headset and described it as the best all-around HMD demo she saw at the event. With performance, optics, UI, and media features similar to Vision Pro, Watson’s positive review carries weight considering her experience at Meta/Oculus.
Play For Dream MR offers USB and wireless PCVR streaming, with Watson noting that the basics like controller motion and resolution are solid. The Touch-style controllers were praised for their quality, although hand tracking was not demonstrated during Watson’s test.
Play For Dream, formerly known as YVR, has a history of releasing standalone VR headsets and is now gearing up for the launch of Play For Dream MR. With a target price of under $2,000, the company promises advanced features and a quality experience for users. Stay updated on Play For Dream’s website for more information on specs and availability.
