Venu Sports may actually be better than its creators intended

Now that the monthly cost of Venu Sports has been revealed, it’s time to crunch some numbers. Despite initial claims from executives, there’s a possibility that this new streaming service, which combines the sports rights of Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery, could exceed its creators’ expectations.

There are numerous components to all three companies involved in Venu Sports. Disney owns the ESPN family of networks and ABC, which are included in most cable subscriptions and linear streaming services in the U.S. Disney also owns Hulu. Fox owns Tubi, and Warner Bros. Discovery is prominent in traditional cable and streaming, owning Max.

The initial plan was not to compete with existing services like Comcast or YouTube TV. However, there have been legal challenges, such as a lawsuit from Fubo alleging unfair business practices. As streaming prices rise and options resemble traditional cable bundles, consumers are seeking better alternatives. For those interested in live sports without a plethora of channels, Venu Sports could be a viable option.

Let’s consider YouTube TV as an example, with over 8 million subscribers and a monthly cost of $73. Venu Sports is $30 cheaper per month, offering similar content. By canceling YouTube TV, you could save money while potentially missing out on a few channels.

Consider setting up an over-the-air antenna to access local broadcast channels for free. Pair it with a networked tuner like Tablo for additional functionality. This one-time investment can significantly reduce monthly expenses while maintaining access to live sports.

By combining free over-the-air broadcasts with a cost-effective sports streaming service like Venu Sports, consumers can enjoy their favorite sports content at a lower price. Executives may not openly endorse this approach, but it’s a compelling option for many.
