US Attorney Matthew Graves resigns after decisions not to charge Hunter Biden, letting DC crime run rampant

DC US Attorney Matthew Graves to Resign Before President-elect Donald Trump’s Return

Washington, DC US Attorney Matthew Graves announced on Monday that he will resign before President-elect Donald Trump retakes the White House, likely avoiding an involuntary departure after controversial decisions regarding first son Hunter Biden and local crimes.

Graves stated, “Serving as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia has been the honor of a lifetime. I am deeply thankful to DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton for recommending me; to President Biden for nominating me; and to Attorney General Merrick Garland for placing his trust in me.”

Graves faced numerous controversies during his time, including allegations of covering for the first family and choosing not to prosecute a significant number of individuals arrested in DC during a violent crime wave.

He confirmed last year that he declined to partner with Delaware US Attorney David Weiss on tax charges against Hunter Biden, citing difficulties in getting up to speed on an ongoing investigation.

Weiss ultimately filed tax charges against Hunter Biden in Los Angeles for non-payments spanning 2016 to 2019, to which the first son pleaded guilty in September.

The DC US attorney’s office handles both federal and local crimes in the nation’s capital, leading to criticism of Graves for a low prosecution rate of arrests for alleged infractions.

Graves defended his decisions by citing the loss of certification at DC’s crime lab, which impacted the prosecution of cases. He emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for their criminal conduct.
