UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting suspect Luigi Mangione fled New York via train, not by bus as originally thought: reports

Reports indicate that the suspect accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City fled Manhattan by train, contrary to initial beliefs that he had left by bus.

Luigi Mangione is facing murder charges for allegedly shooting Thompson outside the Hilton in Midtown Manhattan on December 4.

Following the incident, Mangione, 26, evaded authorities and was apprehended five days later in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Initial investigations suggested that Mangione had taken a bus out of the city, as he was captured on surveillance footage at the George Washington Bridge bus station. However, recent reports suggest that he actually took the subway to Penn Station and purchased a train ticket to Pennsylvania before being captured.

Currently held in a Pennsylvania prison awaiting extradition to New York, Mangione was denied bail on Tuesday.

Upon his arrest at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Mangione reportedly provided a fake ID to local police and exhibited signs of nervousness when questioned about his recent whereabouts in New York.

A handwritten manifesto criticizing the healthcare industry was discovered by authorities, with specific mention of UnitedHealthcare.

Mangione is facing multiple charges in both New York and Pennsylvania, including murder, weapons possession, forgery, and presenting false identification to law enforcement.

Although officials have not confirmed a motive, speculation suggests that Mangione harbored strong grievances towards the healthcare industry and capitalism.

UnitedHealthcare informed employees that Mangione was not covered by their insurance.

Fox News’ Sarah Rumpf-Whitten and Audrey Conklin contributed to this report.
