Uh oh, Nintendo's Switch 2 Treehouse stream chat is being spammed by narked Ninty fans calling on the console maker to "drop the price"

If you’ve come across the price of the Nintendo Switch 2, you probably know that it was announced in a rather unconventional way after yesterday’s Direct. The console’s first post-Switch 2 Direct Treehouse livestream is now facing a challenging audience, with the chat flooded by demands for Nintendo to “drop the price.” This includes the cost of the console itself, priced at $449.99/£395.99/€469.99 for the standard version, and Mario Kart World, which is priced at $79.99/£74.99 if purchased separately. The fact that the Welcome Tour hardware demo is not free may also be contributing to the dissatisfaction.

The reaction to today’s Treehouse stream has been dominated by chatter demanding Ninty to “drop the price,” as showcased in the screenshot below. Despite efforts to showcase games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Donkey Kong Bananza, viewers are more focused on the pricing concerns, creating a continuous stream of demands for price reductions.

For several minutes now, the chat has been filled with calls for price drops, with occasional interruptions from trolls suggesting price increases and some viewers trying to discuss the content of the stream. The overwhelming focus has been on dissatisfaction with the prices since the start of the Treehouse stream.

This sustained outcry even surpasses the response to Hollow Knight: Silksong in yesterday’s Direct, indicating a strong sentiment among viewers. Will consumers follow through with the “vote with your wallet” approach if Nintendo doesn’t address these pricing concerns for their new products? Only time will tell, as it’s much more challenging to resist the urge to buy a new Nintendo game than it is to voice discontent in a chat.

While Nintendo has a history of sticking to its own path, the direct appeal from viewers may influence their decisions. Do you believe Nintendo should lower the prices of the Switch 2? Share your thoughts below!
