A U.S.-backed humanitarian organisation announced on Wednesday (May 14, 2025) its plans to commence operations in Gaza by the end of May. The organisation has requested Israel to allow aid to begin flowing into the enclave using existing procedures until their setup is complete.
Since March 2, no humanitarian aid has been delivered to Gaza, and a global hunger monitor has issued a warning that half a million people in Gaza are facing starvation, which accounts for a quarter of the enclave’s population. International aid groups and U.N. organisations have been managing aid deliveries since the onset of the Gaza conflict in October 2023.

The newly established Gaza Humanitarian Foundation intends to distribute aid in Gaza from secure distribution sites. However, the foundation stressed that Israel’s current plan, which only allows a few sites in southern Gaza, must be expanded to include the northern region as well.
“GHF believes that a successful humanitarian response should encompass the entire civilian population in Gaza,” stated Jake Wood, the foundation’s executive director, in a letter addressed to the Israeli government.
“GHF respectfully urges the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to identify and allocate adequate locations in northern Gaza that can host GHF-operated secure distribution sites, which can be operational within thirty days,” Wood added.
Wood also requested Israel to facilitate the continuous flow of aid “using existing modalities” until GHF’s distribution infrastructure is fully operational. This is crucial to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis and reduce pressure on the distribution sites during the initial phase of operation.
