Following his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump is expected to issue a series of executive orders, covering areas such as immigration, border security, energy, and governance, according to a close aide’s disclosure on Sunday (January 19, 2025).

An executive order is a directive issued by the president that holds the force of law. Unlike legislative acts, executive orders do not require approval from Congress. While Congress cannot overturn them, they can be subject to legal challenges.

“The scope of these orders, which seek to implement significant changes to immigration, energy, and government hiring policies, highlights the urgency with which Trump and his team intend to pursue an ambitious agenda,” as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

During a briefing with senior Republican leaders, Stephen Miller, Trump’s incoming White House deputy chief of staff for policy, outlined the executive orders, which include declaring a state of emergency at the southern border, preparing for military deployment at the borders, designating cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations,” reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy, ending the “Catch and Release” policy, and declaring energy-related emergencies.

Other measures on the agenda comprise opening up offshore and Arctic drilling, expediting pipeline licensing and construction, implementing reforms to reduce government employees, and rescinding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and gender-related orders.

Providing a glimpse of what to expect from Trump’s administration at a ‘victory rally’ in Washington, Miller stated, “He (Trump) has always fought for all of us. So, what can we anticipate on Monday afternoon? It will involve an executive order to halt border incursions, repatriate illegal immigrants, and reclaim America.” “It will entail the dismantling of criminal cartels and foreign gangs that prey on our citizens. It will bring justice to every American who has lost a loved one to an illegal immigrant,” Miller added.

Additionally, Trump, aged 78, is likely to reverse some of the executive orders and actions implemented by outgoing President Joe Biden.

Key reversals may include exiting the Paris Agreement on climate change, easing restrictions on fossil fuel production, and expanding domestic oil drilling.
