President Donald Trump criticized Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, accusing him of prolonging the conflict by refusing to cede Crimea to Russia as part of a potential peace agreement.

Zelenskyy firmly stated on Tuesday that Ukraine would not give up any territory to Russia, asserting that it belongs to the Ukrainian people. This stance has stalled negotiations, with U.S. officials presenting a proposal last week that included allowing Russia to retain control of occupied Ukrainian territory.

Trump expressed frustration at Zelenskyy’s refusal to consider the proposal, questioning why Ukraine did not resist the annexation of Crimea in 2014. He claimed that a deal was close to being reached and warned that continued resistance could result in further violence and loss of territory.

Vice President J.D. Vance emphasized the need for a resolution, stating that the U.S. had presented a fair proposal to both parties. He urged Russia and Ukraine to accept the terms or risk the collapse of negotiations.

Zelenskyy, meanwhile, called for an immediate ceasefire and expressed readiness to engage in peace talks. He condemned a recent attack that killed nine civilians, attributing the violence to Russian aggression.

The ongoing negotiations have been marred by accusations of stalling tactics by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is believed to be seeking territorial gains on the battlefield.
