Donald Trump’s campaign has confirmed that he is safe following reports of gunshots in his vicinity on Sunday (September 15, 2024) afternoon in Florida, as stated by his campaign and the Secret Service.

It has not been determined yet whether the reported gunshots were aimed at the Republican presidential nominee.

The US Secret Service is conducting an investigation and has stated that the incident took place just before 2 pm. The Secret Service reassured that “the former president is safe.”

Just two months ago, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania, where he was grazed by a bullet.

Trump had recently returned to Florida from a trip to the West Coast, which included a rally in Las Vegas and a fundraiser in Utah.

Further details regarding the incident have not been provided by the campaign at this time.

An anonymous law enforcement official mentioned that authorities are trying to ascertain whether the gunshots were fired near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course or within the premises. The official, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, was not authorized to speak publicly.

Trump typically starts his day playing golf in the morning and then has lunch at the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, one of his three clubs in the state.

Since the assassination attempt in July, Trump’s security measures have been heightened. Dump trucks have been positioned outside Trump Tower in New York, and he now speaks from behind bulletproof glass at outdoor events.

Attempts to reach campaign officials for information on the security status and location of Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, have not been successful.

The campaign communications director, Steven Cheung, has confirmed that Trump is safe.
