Trump announces reciprocal tariffs on Canadian dairy, lumber if rate doesn't drop

President Trump Threatens Reciprocal Tariffs on Canadian Dairy and Lumber

President Trump declared on Friday that he would impose reciprocal tariffs on Canadian dairy and lumber if they do not reduce their rates.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump stated, “Canada has been taking advantage of us for years with tariffs on lumber and dairy products, at a rate of 250%. This unfair practice is hurting our farmers, and it will no longer be tolerated.”

He added, “If Canada does not lower their tariffs, they will face the same tariff from us. This is what reciprocal trade means. We are prepared to implement this change as early as today, or we may wait until Monday or Tuesday, but action will be taken.”
