This is what happens ‘when you get two uber-geeks in space at the same time’

During NASA’s first-ever Twitch livestream from the International Space Station (ISS) on Wednesday, current station inhabitant Don Pettit and recent returnee Matthew Dominick talked about their experiences living and working in space.

Both Pettit and Dominick are known for their exceptional space photography skills, capturing breathtaking images of Earth and beyond. The two astronauts met briefly on the station last fall, allowing them to share their passion for space exploration before Dominick’s return to Earth on a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.

During the livestream, Pettit, NASA’s oldest serving astronaut at 69, humorously impersonated Dominick to showcase their shared enthusiasm for space exploration.

The conversation between Pettit and “Dominick” revolved around the best ISO settings for space photography, offering insights into their techniques and experiences.

Aside from the lighthearted skit, Pettit and Dominick discussed daily life on the space station, their research activities, and shared photography tips. They delved into Pettit’s efforts to capture rare phenomena like “red sprites” in Earth’s upper atmosphere.

Camera enthusiasts will appreciate a closer look at the cameras in the Cupola module, which provides stunning views of Earth and space, at the 1:02:40 mark of the stream.

Whether you’re a space enthusiast, photography lover, or simply curious about life in space, NASA’s Twitch livestream offers a captivating glimpse into the astronauts’ experiences onboard the ISS.
