This arcade space combat game is inspired by the golden age of "prestige anime"

Rogue Flight is a thrilling arcade space combat game that takes inspiration from the classic style of ’80s and ’90s prestige anime, with a touch of StarFox influence. Set to be released later this year, the game promises an exciting gameplay experience. Check out the announcement trailer below.

The trailer gives a glimpse of what to expect from the game, showcasing acrobatic maneuvers in your ship as you battle enemies across nine challenging stages. With a branching narrative path and an unlockable roguelite mode, players can expect a dynamic and engaging gameplay experience. Customization options for your spacecraft and pilot add a personal touch to the game.

The game’s marketing highlights the prominent voice cast, featuring renowned Japanese actors from popular anime series like Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gundam, Naruto, and One Piece. While some may recognize these voices, for others, like myself, who prefer dubbed anime over subbed, the English voice cast includes talents from Fallout 76, Overwatch, and League Of Legends.

Space combat set to energetic rock music is undeniably fun, but what truly captivates me is the game’s aesthetic and tone. Anime that explores themes of tragedy and despair in a futuristic setting intrigues me far more than those focused on action and fanservice. The idea of piloting a powerful but cursed mech or spaceship as a manifestation of one’s inner turmoil is both fascinating and haunting. It’s a concept that resonates with the struggle of navigating through life.
