If you indulge in chocolate after dinner daily, your cue is finishing the meal. You crave sugar. Your routine involves eating chocolate. Your reward is satisfying your sweet tooth.

We see the cue, perform the action, receive the reward, and repeat the cycle.

Over time, this loop of cue, routine, and reward becomes ingrained in our behavior. This is when we consider it a habit – the routine becomes automatic.
