Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders delayed in US so Nintendo can "assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions"

During today’s Switch 2 Reveal Nintendo Direct, the company made several announcements that left fans excited. The most anticipated reveals were the release date and pricing of the new console.

While these announcements confirmed what many had suspected, they still generated a lot of buzz among the gaming community.

The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5. It will be available in a bundle with a digital copy of Mario Kart World. The standard version is priced at $449.99, £395.99, €469.99, while the MKW bundle will cost $499.99, £429.99, €509.99.

Pre-orders will open on Tuesday, April 8 in the UK, and April 9 in the US.

The standard version comes with 256GB of internal storage, offering faster read and write speeds than the original Switch.

While the console remains similar in handheld mode, it has been optimized to utilize space better. The screen size has been increased to 7.9 inches, supporting 1080p at up to 120fps and HDR.

The Dock also supports HDR at up to 4K resolution. The Joy-Con 2 controllers have been upgraded and now attach to the console magnetically. Additionally, the console features two USB-C ports, one on the top and one on the bottom.

There’s also a camera (sold separately) that you can use in games and with GameChat.

One notable feature is GameChat, a cross-game voice chat function that utilizes a noise-cancelling microphone built into the console.

While some Switch cartridges are compatible with the new system, faster extended storage is required as the Switch 2 only supports MicroSD Express cards.

Most existing Switch games will be compatible with the new console, with some titles being updated to take advantage of the increased power. These upgraded games will be labeled as Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
