The medieval dice game you play in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is now a retro Arthurian roguelite

Numerous minigames have the potential to outshine the main games they are a part of, capturing the player’s attention like parasites absorbing nutrients from their host. Examples include Tetra Master, Gwent, fishing in RPGs, and unique features like flushable sinks in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Space Harrier, exclusively available as an arcade game within Yakuza 0, is another standout.

Occasionally, these minigames break free from their original hosts and become standalone releases. Dicealot, inspired by the medieval dice game Farkle found in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, slightly deviates from the original rules by incorporating a frame narrative involving Queen Gwynevere and King Arthur. Additional power and quest dice are introduced, making it a roguelite experience. A demo is available on Steam for those interested.

The game’s presentation is reminiscent of an illuminated manuscript combined with a retro cathode-ray TV aesthetic, infused with elements of art deco.

Developed by the two-person team Goodviewgames, based in Leeds and Bordeaux, Dicealot offers a unique gameplay experience. The developers’ connection to Leeds resonates with the author, who hails from the same region. Despite the geographical link, developers and publishers must offer compelling content to capture interest, rather than just being based in a specific location. However, the possibility of studio visits in Leeds could potentially sway the author due to personal ties to the area.
