The Last of Us 2 will reportedly follow Part 1 onto PC, but potentially not until next year

The Last of Us Part II is reportedly making its way to PC, following in the footsteps of its predecessor. Despite the completion of development on the PC port several months ago, a release date may not be expected until 2025.

These reports come from Dealabs’ Billbil-kun, a reliable source who has accurately shared news about PlayStation PC ports in the past. According to the leaker, work on a PC version of The Last of Us 2 began in 2021 and development was supposedly completed in November of last year or earlier.

While it’s unclear if the PC release will be based on the remastered version of the game, it seems highly likely. The first installment of The Last of Us made its way to PC in March last year, six months after its remastered release on PS5. The remaster included enhancements to gameplay elements and visuals, as well as new modes for speedrunning and permadeath. The gap between the original release and the remaster of Part 2 was shorter, so the improvements may not be as significant.

The remastered version of The Last of Us Part II was released on PS5 earlier this year, suggesting that the delay in the PC release could be to allow the console version some breathing space. Billbil-kun speculates that the PC release may coincide with the second season of the HBO adaptation, which will cover part of the sequel’s intense storyline.

With no official announcement from Sony yet and no mention of The Last of Us in their recent State of Play showcase, fans will have to wait for further updates. Given the trend of PlayStation exclusives coming to PC, it’s likely that The Last of Us 2 will eventually make its way to the platform. When it does, users may need to sign in with a PlayStation account.
