The Killer Morning Routine to Boost Motivation
If you struggle with waking up in the morning like I do, you’re not alone. After years of trial and error, I’ve developed a routine that helps me get out of bed and stay motivated throughout the day.
Before Bed
One of the toughest parts of my day is waking up and staying awake. To combat this, I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Before going to sleep, I make sure to have a spoon of nut butter (or sunflower butter for those with allergies) to help regulate blood sugar levels and promote a more restful night’s sleep. Going to bed between 9pm-11pm also has its benefits, as it allows for more non-REM sleep which is essential for feeling rejuvenated.
Waking up
I’ve learned that hitting snooze and going back to sleep after your alarm goes off will only make you feel more tired. To combat grogginess, I recommend starting your day with an apple and a glass of water. The natural sugars in the apple and hydration from the water can help kickstart your body after a night of fasting. Another trick I use is keeping a bottle of hot sauce on my nightstand. A small amount of hot sauce can give you the jolt you need to wake up fully. Afterward, engaging in some form of exercise is crucial to jumpstart your day and get those endorphins flowing.
Exercise
Any exercise that gets your heart rate up is beneficial. Whether it’s a quick high-intensity interval training session, a short run, or a calming yoga practice, moving your body in the morning can help shake off any lingering drowsiness.
The Wim Hof Method
After a workout, I recommend trying the Wim Hof breathing exercise followed by a cold shower. While the cold water may be a shock to the system, it can leave you feeling energized and even boost your immunity and mood. This invigorating start to the day can help you tackle any challenges ahead.
Meditation and journaling
Taking a few minutes for meditation can help clear your mind and reduce stress. Setting daily goals and reflecting on your achievements can also help you stay focused and motivated throughout the day. Journaling can be a powerful tool for expressing gratitude, tracking your progress, and visualizing your future success.
Breakfast
Starting your day with a nutritious breakfast, such as a smoothie packed with berries, protein, oats, nuts, and spinach, can provide you with the fuel you need to power through your morning.
Removing distractions and not to do list
Creating a “not to do” list can be just as important as a to-do list. Avoiding distractions like multitasking and negative thinking can help you stay focused and productive. Setting boundaries with technology, such as limiting phone use until after meditation, can also help you maintain your focus.
By incorporating these tips into your morning routine, you can boost your motivation and productivity for the day ahead. Remember, a successful morning sets the tone for a successful day.
