Heatwaves drive up power demand in North India to all-time high

Due to the prolonged heatwaves in the region, the power demand in North India reached a record high of 89 GW (89,000 MW) in a single day. To meet this demand, around 25%-30% of power had to be sourced from outside the region, as stated by the Power Ministry on Tuesday. Most states in the northern region are experiencing severe heatwaves, with Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh recording a maximum temperature of 47.6 degrees Celsius.

Bomb threats create chaos at 41 airports across India

41 airports across the country received email threats warning of bombs on their premises, which were later confirmed to be hoaxes. The threats were received by airport directors on Tuesday, with the sender claiming explosives were hidden in the airports and would soon explode. All airports formed Bomb Threat Assessment Committees and deemed the threats as non-specific or false alarms.
