The Cathay Group reaches 100,000 passenger milestone in a single day, ET TravelWorld

The Cathay Group marks a strong conclusion to its two-year rebuilding journey, surpassing 100,000 passengers on a single day for the first time since the start of its recovery process.

On 15 December 2024, Cathay Pacific and HK Express, the Group’s two passenger airlines, carried a combined total of 100,856 passengers. This milestone was achieved as part of the year-end travel peak, and the Group exceeded the 100,000-passenger mark on eight additional days throughout the period, which ended on 31 December 2024.

Ronald Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the Cathay Group, expressed his pride in the achievement. “We are thrilled to have concluded 2024 on a high note with yet another milestone. The past year saw unprecedented progress for the Cathay Group, thanks to the dedication of our people.

The milestone comes at the end of the Group’s two-year rebuilding effort, which focused on expanding flight offerings and destinations. “A new chapter has now begun for Cathay,” Lam added.

In line with its expansion plans, Cathay Pacific recently resumed its seasonal service to Cairns, Australia, and will be launching new long-haul routes in 2025, including Hyderabad, Dallas, Munich, and Brussels. HK Express has also added Shizuoka, Japan, to its network and will introduce a new route to Sendai later this month.

Both airlines have reached 100% of their pre-pandemic flight capacity and expect to operate passenger services to 100 destinations worldwide in 2025. This marks another significant achievement for the Cathay Group, which continues to contribute to Hong Kong’s role as a global aviation hub.
