Reef Entertainment and developer Bitmap Bureau have announced Terminator 2D: No Fate, a new side-scrolling action game that pays homage to the early 90s movie tie-ins. The game is set to release on September 5th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

The trailer showcases a blend of the film’s essence and 16-bit video game aesthetics, enhanced by modern hardware capabilities. The animation is smooth, the sprite work is detailed, and iconic moments from the film are faithfully recreated alongside original stages.

Players will have the opportunity to control Sarah Connor, the T-800, and John Connor in futuristic missions featuring beat ’em up, shooting, and stealth gameplay elements.

While reflecting on the game’s development, design director Mike Tucker describes it as a tribute to 80s/90s arcade games and envisions it as the Terminator 2 game that should have existed in their youth.

Despite previous Terminator tie-in games, Bitmap Bureau aims to deliver a unique experience with Terminator 2D: No Fate. The team’s innovative approach allows for potential porting to classic platforms in the future, with the current console release scheduled for September 5th.
