Switch 2 features magnetic Joy-Con Controllers and both are larger than current offerings – report

The latest report suggests that the Joy-Con controllers for the upcoming Switch 2 will be larger in size and will attach to the console via magnets. Sources from accessory manufacturers, as reported by Vandal, also indicate that the new Switch 2 will be bigger than the current models, although not as large as the Steam Deck.

Furthermore, it has been mentioned that the Switch 2 will be compatible with the existing Switch Pro controllers.

Earlier reports suggested that the release of Switch 2 has been internally delayed, pushing the launch to Q1 2025 to ensure a strong lineup of games at launch, potentially including Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Previous leaks hinted at the Switch 2 being a hybrid console with a larger screen.

There have been claims that Nintendo showcased the features of the new console behind closed doors at gamescom 2023. Additionally, documents from the FTC v. Microsoft case revealed that Activision was briefed on a console codenamed “Switch NG” in 2022, boasting performance comparable to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Rumors suggest that the Switch 2 will be powered by a Nvidia Tegra T239 chip, an octa-core ARM Cortex-A78C CPU, a 12 SM Ampere GPU, and a 128-bit LPDDR5 memory. The console is expected to support DLSS and ray tracing, with reports indicating a demo of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running in 4K at 60fps. Sharp is reportedly manufacturing the 8-inch LCD screen for the Switch 2.

Moreover, the Switch 2 is said to offer backward compatibility with both digital and physical Switch games, with some titles receiving enhanced features. However, until an official announcement from Nintendo, all this information should be treated as rumors.
