Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai announced during the company’s Q4 earnings call that the focus on AI will continue to grow in 2025. This news resulted in a drop of more than 7% in Alphabet shares as the company fell short of fourth-quarter revenue expectations and revealed ambitious plans for AI development.

Pichai mentioned that 2025 will see significant search innovation driven by AI expansion, moving towards a more Assistant-like experience. The evolution of the Search product aims to make interaction easier for users and offer more personalized experiences.

The company plans to invest $75 billion in AI capital expenditures this year to keep up with the growing AI market. While Meta and Microsoft are also investing heavily in AI, concerns have been raised regarding the necessity of such high expenditures, especially with emerging efficient models like DeepSeek.

Pichai defended Google’s AI models, stating that the Gemini family remains efficient compared to competitors like DeepSeek. Despite the competitive landscape, Google is committed to driving further growth and enhancing the user experience through AI-powered Search.
