Study finds people daydream about vacation more in the winter

A recent study revealed that the average American spends about 40 minutes a day thinking about a place they would rather be.

The survey, which involved 2,000 Americans, focused on how much time people spend daydreaming about their next vacation.

Results showed that on average, individuals accumulate 4.7 hours per week fantasizing about faraway destinations, from browsing travel-related content on social media to researching vacation spots.

During the winter season, the daily average of thinking about vacation increases by 16%, with people spending 46 minutes per day dreaming of being on holiday or embarking on adventures.

What contributes to this fantasy thinking time?

Respondents mentioned spending 21 minutes per week watching travel vlogs, 25 minutes consuming other destination-related social media content, 22 minutes researching ticket prices, and 26 minutes discussing travel plans with friends and family.

According to Michael Lowery, head of global consumer business at CheapCaribbean Vacations, taking a break and disconnecting from everyday life is essential for overall well-being. All-inclusive resorts provide a seamless getaway where everything is taken care of, allowing individuals to relax and reconnect with themselves or loved ones.

Does daydreaming about travel impact work life? For employed individuals, the average time spent thinking about travel during the last work week was 2.3 hours, equivalent to one full work day per month.

While 46% of respondents find thinking about travel motivating while working, 19% find it less motivating. Additionally, 36% of employed individuals mentioned that their work and productivity suffer in the winter due to daydreaming about vacation.
