Steve Carell helps students affected by L.A. wildfires go to prom for free - National

Steve Carell surprised high school students in Southern California affected by the Los Angeles wildfires with free prom tickets.

The 62-year-old actor, in a video posted on Instagram, announced that Alice’s Kids, a charity based in Virginia, will cover all prom tickets for senior students from six different high schools in Altadena, Calif.

“Alice’s Kids will be donating $175,000 towards prom costs, covering tickets for over 800 students,” Carell said in the video. “If you have already paid for your prom tickets, they will reimburse you. Have fun and enjoy the prom!”

Ron Fitzsimmons, executive director of Alice’s Kids, stated, “Going to prom should be a celebration, and we wanted to help make the big night a little easier for seniors whose lives have been affected by the wildfires.”

Students at John Muir High School cheered as they were surprised with Carell’s video during a school assembly.

Alice’s Kids also shared videos of other high schools playing the announcement for senior students.

Carell’s gesture showcases his generosity, distinct from his character Michael Scott in “The Office,” who made empty promises to underprivileged students.

In January, the Eaton and Palisades fires in California caused extensive damage, including school campuses, affecting thousands of students and parents.
