Ubisoft recently released a substantial patch for Star Wars Outlaws following the game’s Early Access launch and ahead of the full release on August 30th. However, this update has caused a major issue for players on PS5, potentially requiring them to restart the game completely. Not a great situation for Ubisoft…

Version 1.000.002 is now available on all platforms – Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC – with a size of approximately 8.5GB. The patch includes the following brief notes:

  • Added 40fps support for compatible displays
  • Resolved performance issues
  • Fixed numerous bugs throughout the game

For PS5 players specifically, Ubisoft has acknowledged an issue where some may be playing on an outdated version of the game.

The only solution is to install the version 1.000.002 update and start a new game to avoid any potential issues or obstacles.

This situation is so critical for player progress that Ubisoft has been sending emails to early players, urging them to ensure they have downloaded the update and restarted the game, potentially erasing hours of gameplay. Unfortunately, these emails seem to be sent 4-5 hours into the game, after the patch has already been applied.

The email states: “To fully experience the Outer Rim, we conducted maintenance to ensure everyone is playing the latest version of the game. As one of the affected players with access to an older version, we understand that you may encounter issues after the recent patch. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. […] Once you have confirmed that you have the latest version, please start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as intended by our team. Continuing on a previous save will result in issues and progression blockers.”

Fortunately, our review of the game in the past week did not encounter any issues, and it is possible that not all players are affected. Given the timing, it is likely that most players have already updated the game before starting their gameplay.

We had a great time in the Star Wars universe, with our review stating, “Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world scoundrel-’em-up that expands on Ubisoft’s familiar format. The reputation system is particularly intriguing, as the constant fluctuations challenge any loyalty you may have. Most importantly, this game immerses you in the beloved Star Wars Universe. It’s not flawless, but engaging in activities like stealing for crime syndicates, battling the Empire, and exploring alien landscapes is a dream come true.”
