Sony’s Enterprise MR Headset Set to Release Next Month, Priced at $4,750
Sony’s SRH-S1 Standalone MR Headset Official Launch Date and Price Revealed
Sony’s SRH-S1 standalone MR headset, which was unveiled at CES 2024, is set to launch in February 2025 in collaboration with Siemens. Priced at $4,750, the enterprise-focused device is aimed at industrial use cases. Orders for the headset will begin on January 23rd, 2025, and can be purchased directly through Siemens.
The SRH-S1 is designed to enhance product design and manufacturing processes by enabling the industrial metaverse. It features high-fidelity mixed reality tools from Siemens and boasts a 13.6MP (3,552 x 3840) per-eye resolution using Sony’s ECX344A OLED microdisplay and a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. The headset also includes proprietary rendering technology for real-time 3D object rendering.
The SRH-S1 also features passthrough video, a flip-up visor, and ergonomic controllers for intuitive 3D interactions. The controllers are designed in the form of a stylus-type pointer and ring for enhanced usability.
Siemens has also enhanced its Immersive Engineering tools to complement the SRH-S1, allowing users to design 3D assets in CAD, interact with models, and conduct multi-user design reviews via Siemens’ cloud-based NX X platform.
Bob Haubrock, Senior VP of Product Engineering Software at Siemens Digital Industries Software, stated, “Our collective teams have built a set of tools that revolutionize how mixed reality is used in the engineering space, enabling global collaboration based on high-fidelity 3D models and co-creation directly on vital 3D CAD data in a managed, secure environment.”
In addition to the SRH-S1, Sony is also working on a creative-focused headset called XYN, which is currently in the prototype stage. The XYN is expected to be a variant of the SRH-S1, distinguished by its black colorway compared to the grey design of the SRH-S1.
