Sony says it's working in "close collaboration" with Miyamoto on the Zelda movie, a sentence I never thought I'd write

It may seem strange, but Sony is collaborating closely with Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto on the upcoming film adaptation.

Since the announcement, many have found it odd that Sony is involved in helping Nintendo with the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. However, Sony Motion Pictures Group chair Tom Rothman expressed his excitement in an interview with Deadline, stating, “The Legend of Zelda is going to be huge for us. Massive.” Rothman emphasized the importance of having great material to attract top talent and filmmakers, highlighting the significance of intellectual property (IP) in the industry. He also mentioned the significant role of Shigeru Miyamoto in shaping the project, recognizing his genius and vision in the gaming world.

Rothman further elaborated on the collaboration with Miyamoto, highlighting the close relationship and creative synergy between the two. He stressed the balanced approach Sony is taking with its film slate, focusing on both big IP projects and solid sequels. Rothman listed several upcoming sequels and emphasized the importance of established names in the industry.

In the gaming world, Tears of the Kingdom marked its first anniversary recently, showcasing a unique narrative approach similar to a second act rather than a traditional sequel. Director Wes Ball shared his vision for the Zelda film, aiming for a grounded and authentic interpretation of the beloved franchise.
