In a surprising turn of events, Sony, known for its innovative technology, had once considered basing its business model on NFTs, a decision that ultimately proved to be ill-fated. The rise and fall of NFTs left many investors disillusioned, with the market crashing by 98% in July 2024.

While generative AI has not faced the same fate as NFTs, there has been a noticeable shift in public opinion towards its use in various forms of art. Even game developers, such as those behind Black Myth: Wukong, have expressed reservations about its integration.

Despite this skepticism, Sony is reportedly exploring the incorporation of generative AI into its future games, starting with Horizon Zero Dawn. The leaked internal video showcases an AI model for the protagonist, Aloy, designed to interact with players through verbal questions. If successful, Sony may implement similar AI models in upcoming games, potentially replacing traditional voice actors. This move has been met with mixed reactions, considering the thematic elements of Horizon Zero Dawn cautioning against the overreliance on AI.

Interestingly, Sony’s venture into AI echoes Elon Musk’s recent announcement regarding X’s focus on utilizing AI in gaming content creation. Musk’s vision includes the use of AI to replace human coders and artists, with potential incorporation of NFT blockchain technology.
