After experiencing a 24-hour downtime on Saturday, February 8th, PlayStation Network is back up and running. Sony has issued an apology and announced compensation for PlayStation Plus members – everyone will receive an additional five days added to their current subscriptions.

On social media, Sony stated:

Network services have been fully restored following an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the community’s patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an extra 5 days of service.

While Sony has not provided an explanation for the downtime, speculation suggests it could be due to a hack, similar to past incidents in 2011 and 2014, or a technical error during an update.

Although the additional 5 days of PS Plus is a good gesture, it may not cover all affected users, especially those playing free-to-play titles that do not require PS Plus membership.

Companies hosting events and betas over the weekend are also making adjustments to compensate for the lost time. Capcom is considering extending the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test 2, and Activision may do the same for ongoing events.

Additionally, the downtime may impact frugal gamers who rely on discounted promotions during sale periods. The automatic addition of 5 extra days to subscriptions could affect their ability to take advantage of new customer promotions when renewing subscriptions.

As PSN is now back online, players can enjoy uninterrupted gaming once again. Happy gaming, everyone!
