Sony founds new studio teamLFG from former Bungie incubation project

Sony has announced the establishment of teamLFG, a new studio under PlayStation Studios that has been formed around an incubation project and team previously part of Bungie.
While the team consists of ex-Bungie developers, PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst has mentioned that they have also brought in developers from various parts of the industry.
teamLFG has also shared some details about their upcoming game. Their debut title will draw inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games. Players will immerse themselves in a light-hearted, comedic world set in a new mythic science-fantasy universe.
Below is teamLFG’s announcement letter:
“Hello, world. It’s a pleasure to meet you, and we are thrilled to be joining PlayStation Studios.
Our studio is based in Bellevue, WA, with team members working both on-site and remotely across the U.S. and Canada. Our team comprises industry veterans who have worked on titles like Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room, as well as newcomers with fresh creative ideas. We are dedicated to delivering exceptional action gameplay, immersive virtual worlds, and strong social connections.
The “LFG” in “teamLFG” stands for “Looking For Group.” Our goal is to create games where players can find friendship, community, and a sense of belonging. We aim for players to feel excited to log in and find their teammates already online, to recognize familiar names, and to create memorable moments together. We want players to love recalling the epic plays that changed the course of a match. As we say on the team – that’s the good stuff.
We will develop immersive multiplayer worlds driven by action gameplay that players can enjoy and master for hours on end. We intend to involve our community in the development process through early access playtests, allowing us to incorporate player feedback throughout the game’s lifecycle and continue growing the game and community for years to come.
Our first game is a team-based action game that draws inspiration from various genres. Players will dive into a comedic world set in a new mythic science-fantasy universe. Stay tuned for more updates.
Until then, we’ll give it our all! Thank you for reading.”

This new studio emerged from Bungie last August amid challenges faced by the Destiny 2 developer. With Destiny 2 not meeting expectations and the upcoming release of Marathon still a few months away, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons initiated layoffs, leading to the formation of teamLFG to work on an incubation project within PlayStation Studios. One Destiny 2 spin-off, codenamed Payback, was cancelled during this period, while around 40 team members transitioned to form teamLFG.
