Snap Makes Spectacles AR Glasses More Affordable for Students & Teachers

Snap, the company behind Snapchat, has announced a new educational discount for students and teachers on its latest Spectacles AR Glasses. The discount cuts the $1,200 launch price in half, making the innovative technology more accessible to those in the educational field.

Released in September 2024, the fifth-gen Spectacles, known as Spectacles ’24, are primarily aimed at developers and priced at $100 per month for a one-year commitment. Despite some significant improvements over the previous model, such as a wider field-of-view, better resolution, hand-tracking capabilities, and software enhancements, the price point may have been a barrier for students and teachers interested in exploring AR applications.

To address this issue, Snap is introducing a student discount that reduces the total cost of Spectacles by half. Students and teachers can now purchase the AR glasses for $49.50 a month with a minimum 12-month commitment, followed by $49.50 per month for continued use. Alternatively, there is an option for a one-time payment of $594 for the first 12 months, with subsequent monthly payments of $49.50 for continued use.

To take advantage of this offer, interested individuals must possess a .edu email address or an email from an accredited educational institution. The discount is available in various supported regions, including the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands.
