Sling TV is hiking its prices in December

Key Takeaways

  • Sling TV is increasing prices by $5.99 for all three plans starting in December 2024.
  • The price hike is attributed to rising costs from program providers and inflation.
  • Despite the increase, Sling TV remains competitive with its main rival, YouTube TV.

Price hikes are never welcome news, especially when it comes to streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, or Max. The latest addition to the list is Sling TV.

Sling TV has officially announced a $5.99 price increase across all its plans starting December 20 (via CNET).

The cost of Sling Orange will rise from $40 to $45.99 per month, with similar increases for Sling Blue and Sling Orange+ depending on ABC affiliate pricing in different regions. This marks the first price increase for Sling TV since 2022.

Unfortunately, price hikes in the streaming industry are becoming commonplace. Sling TV attributes its decision to increase prices to the rising costs of programming and inflation.

“The price we pay to provide you with the programming you enjoy continues to increase well above the pace of inflation. We actively fight every day on your behalf to keep costs as low as possible,” Sling stated on its site. “However, due to these rising costs, the cost of Sling Orange, Sling Blue and Sling Orange + Blue will increase by $5.99 per month.”

Throughout 2024, Sling has expanded its paid service with over 50 additional channels and its Freestream service with over 150 channels. Additionally, 4K streaming became available on Sling this past summer.

In 2024, Max, Paramount+, Peacock, and Disney+ have also raised their prices. Netflix’s last price hike was in October 2023. Despite the increase, Sling TV’s pricing remains competitive against YouTube TV, which offers a base plan at $72.99 per month. Sling still provides various plans at lower rates, even with the $5.99 increase, although the channel offerings may differ.
