Skate will not have an offline mode confirms Full Circle

Developer Full Circle has recently launched a new blog series called The Grind, focusing on the development of Skate. In the inaugural post, Full Circle shared details about playtests, game stats, gameplay mechanics, and information on microtransactions.

It was previously announced that Skate would be a free-to-play game, with Full Circle now confirming that there will be no offline mode. In The Grind blog post, the development team explained, “The game and city are designed to be a living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox that is always online and constantly evolving. You’ll witness both major changes to the city over time and minor events like live activities. To realize our vision of a skateboarding world, the game will always require an online connection. This shouldn’t come as a surprise if you’ve participated in our playtests.”

Regarding the playtest, Full Circle revealed that over 200,000 players have been invited to provide feedback. Microtransactions have been active in the playtest to determine fair pricing models. Players who have made purchases during the playtest will receive the equivalent value in Skate’s premium in-game currency, San Van Bucks. The game will also feature earnable currency called Rip Chips, with no loot boxes. Full Circle emphasized that new game areas will be accessible to all players for free. Playtest stats include the number of times certain tricks have been performed.

  • Over 16 million kickflips, including nollie and varials.
  • More than 4.8 million successful 50-50 Grinds.
  • The longest grind recorded so far is over 200 meters.
  • More than 40 million Total Wipeouts.
  • Over 6.5 million challenges completed.

Skate will support cross-play and cross-progression. Full Circle confirmed that the game is still on track for an Early Access release this year, with an exact date yet to be determined.
