Shaquille O'Neal says Ben Simmons needs to be 'arrested' for his play

Shaquille O’Neal expresses his dissatisfaction with the modern style of play in the NBA.

He particularly takes issue with former Net and current Clipper Ben Simmons.

During a recent episode of “The Big Podcast,” O’Neal shared his thoughts on the current state of basketball, stating that he is not impressed with the direction the game has taken.

When discussing LeBron James’ longevity in relation to the changing physicality of the NBA, O’Neal remarked, “I’ve seen what greatness is, been there, played with ’em. I don’t see that all the time over here. So, you want me to give these motherf–kers the same props you giving them? That s–t will never happen. You can call it hate if you want.”

O’Neal and fellow “Inside the NBA” panelist Charles Barkley have faced criticism for their views on the modern game compared to the era they played in. O’Neal continued to emphasize his belief that the current product is subpar.

While O’Neal acknowledges the talent of players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Nikola Jokic, and Damian Lillard, he is not impressed with Simmons, whom he believes is overpaid.

“But Ben Simmons [needs] to be f–king arrested. $250 [million] for that bulls–t? Get the f–k out of my face. Robbing people, man. You can’t do that.”

Simmons, the top overall pick in 2016, initially showed promise in his career but has struggled with injuries and performance inconsistencies.

Despite signing a lucrative contract extension with the 76ers, Simmons struggled to stay healthy and maintain his All-Star level of play.

After being traded to the Nets and then the Clippers, Simmons continues to face challenges on the court and has not lived up to expectations.

Simmons has earned a substantial amount in his career but has yet to fully deliver on his potential.

In a recent interview, Simmons expressed his contentment with playing for the Clippers and feeling at home in Los Angeles.

“Feels like home, honestly,” Simmons said. “I never really felt like New York was home for me. Being in LA, I feel like me as a person, it’s my kind of scenery or environment to be in. I think I thrive in situations like that. It was a blessing and a great experience to be in New York and experience being in New York City, there’s no city in the world like it.

“But I’m happy where I’m at, I love being in LA.”
