Sergey Brin says RTO is key to Google winning the AGI race
According to The New York Times, Google co-founder Sergey Brin has urged employees to return to the office “at least every weekday” to help the company succeed in the AGI race. Brin believes that working 60 hours a week is the optimal level for productivity.
Although Brin’s memo does not represent an official policy change for Google, which currently requires employees to be in the office three days a week, it highlights the intense competition in AI among Silicon Valley giants. The memo also suggests Brin’s confidence in Google’s ability to develop AGI, a superintelligent AI system equivalent to human intelligence.
Brin’s return to Google in recent years has been focused on helping the company excel in the AI race. Google was taken aback by OpenAI’s release of ChatGPT in 2022, but has since been working diligently to catch up with the industry’s leading AI models.
