Segway’s robot mower spared me from my least favorite chore

Segway’s Navimow i105 is a GPS-equipped mower priced at £945 (around $1,200) that eliminates the need for boundary wires typically required by other robotic mowers. This mower is part of Segway’s more affordable i Series, offering a smaller battery and range compared to their pricier S Series. The i105 can handle areas up to 500 square meters and is equipped with a forward-facing HD camera with a 180-degree field of vision to avoid obstacles.

Setting up the Navimow i105 involves planting the docking station, connecting it to power and a GPS antenna, and using the app on your phone to map out your lawn’s perimeter. Despite some initial challenges with hidden bumps and dips in the lawn, the Navimow efficiently mows the grass, avoiding obstacles with its GPS positioning and obstacle avoidance features.

While the Navimow may not be able to reach edges without riding beyond its boundary, it significantly reduces the amount of manual effort required to maintain a neat lawn. The unit’s IP66 rating for water- and dust-resistance ensures it can withstand the elements, with the option to purchase a canopy for added protection. Overall, the Navimow has proven to be a valuable tool in keeping the lawn tidy with minimal supervision, making it a worthwhile investment for those looking to automate lawn maintenance. And even though it comes with a hefty price tag, if the product endures for more than a few years, it will ultimately be more cost-effective than repeatedly hiring a professional gardener for the task.
