Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs notches small legal win over seizure of his notebook
Federal Judge Rules Prosecutors Can’t Use Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Notebook
A judge ruled on Tuesday that federal prosecutors cannot use a notebook found in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ jail cell, where he allegedly wrote about finding “dirt” on two of his alleged victims. The notebook contained 19 pages, and the judge ordered the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office to delete photos of its contents following a raid on Combs’ cell.
Combs, who is facing sex trafficking and racketeering charges, received a small legal win as the material from the notebook cannot be used by prosecutors during his upcoming bond hearing on Friday, according to US District Judge Arun Subramanian.
Combs’ legal team argued that the seizure of the notebook by the feds in October was an overstep of authority and violated attorney-client privilege. Prosecutor Mary Slavik defended the government’s actions, stating that the notes were obtained as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged obstruction of justice by Combs.
The notebook contained notes about paying off potential witnesses and digging up dirt on them and two alleged victims, which could potentially lead to more charges against Combs. Subramanian is holding a copy of the notes for now as he decides on their admissibility in building an obstruction case against the rapper.
Combs, who was arrested in September, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in detention despite multiple bail applications. He is also facing civil suits filed against him in recent months.
Another bail hearing for Combs is scheduled for Friday, where he seeks release on $50 million bail. Prosecutors have expressed concerns about potential witness tampering if he is released.
