Saudia Group signs landmark agreement with Lilium for 100 eVTOL jets, BA

Saudia Group and Lilium NV, a leading electric aircraft manufacturer, have signed a historic sales agreement for up to 100 Lilium Jets. This includes an initial purchase of 50 jets with options for an additional 50, making it the largest eVTOL aircraft order by an airline in the MENA region.

The signing ceremony, held at Lilium’s headquarters in Munich, was attended by Fahd Al-Jarbou, CEO of Saudia Private, and Lilium’s CEO Klaus Roewe including Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, Michael Kindsgrab, the German Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Lilium Chairman Tom Enders.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in the electric aviation industry, representing the largest firm order of eVTOL aircraft by an airline. This partnership aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to enhance sustainable and premium air travel experiences.

Saudia Group’s acquisition of Lilium Jets is expected to increase flight frequencies and decrease traffic congestion, offering a fast and convenient alternative for regional travel. The jets will play a crucial role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s growing demand for sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.Klaus Roewe, CEO of Lilium, expressed, “We are thrilled to partner with Saudia, a market-leading airline. Prior to the commercialization of the jets, Saudia Group will assist Lilium in the certification process with Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

This agreement is the latest addition to Lilium’s growing order pipeline, which now includes 106 firm orders, 76 options, and roughly 600 aircraft under MOU. Lilium is also in advanced discussions with other global carriers seeking to reduce carbon emissions and electrify regional air travel.
